Dorothy N. Cook

Dorothy Cook, 100 years old, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2020 at Legend Oaks, Kyle, Texas. Dorothy was born October 8, 1919, in Alto, New Mexico. She grew up in Carrizozo, New Mexico, then enrolled in college. Because of her father’s ill health, she left college and returned to Carrizozo. She married Robert Cook, a rancher, in 1937. They had three children, Sue, Jane and Bob. In 1949, the family moved to a ranch in northern Arizona, near Kingman. It was sold in 1954 and they moved to Blythe, California. In 1957, Dorothy and her husband bought, then operated a small business in Needles, California until 1961 when they bought a mobile home park in Chico, California. After her husband died in 1974, Dorothy sold the park and moved to San Diego in 1976 to be near her daughter Jane. She began work as a secretary for a major information storage company, being promoted over the years to Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Manufacturing. Dorothy retired in 2001 at the age of 81. In 2005, she moved to San Marcos, Texas to again be near her daughter Jane and family. In 2012, she moved into the Legend Oaks facility at Kyle continuing to pursue her passion of reading. Dorothy is survived by daughters, Jane (Richard) Dziezyk of Wimberley and Sue Appleberry of San Antonio; son, Bob (Marcia) Cook of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Richard Dziezyk, Karen (Ben) Rabion, Bethany (Dan) Wieman, Marisa Cook, Dana (James) Rudisill, Wayne (Sheila) Appleberry and Steven Appleberry (deceased); eleven great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. A private committal service will be held in Chico, where Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her entire family.
