    DORIS ANN FISSELER

Doris Ann Fisseler

January 20, 1949 – January 16, 2022

Doris Ann Fisseler, age 72, of Wimberley, Texas peacefully transitioned to her home with our Lord on January 16, 2022, after living with stage 4 lung cancer for nearly four years. In her final days and moments, she was as she loved to live, in the house she and her husband built together and surrounded by her family and friends.

Doris was born in 1949 in Victoria, Texas to Edwin and Elsie (Besetzny) Schilhab where she lived until attending Sam Houston State University. After college she moved to Houston where she met her love and spouse of 42 years, Glenn Fisseler. They married in August of 1979 and after staying home for ten years with their three children, she attended Houston Baptist University to become a Registered Nurse. She worked at Texas Children’s Hospital and then at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School as a nurse and secretary. After her retirement from St. Francis, she and Glenn moved to their dream home, a log cabin overlooking the river, where they enjoyed morning coffee and birdwatching on the back porch and long walks on the dirt roads. She also loved traveling, both overseas and on road trips throughout the U.S.

Doris was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, she opened the house to all. Known as Oma to her grandchildren and Sissie to friends, she loved having people over for holidays, Canasta, and sibling reunions and never turned down a visit from her children and their families to play in the sandbox or jump in the river.

A devout Catholic dedicated to service and fellowship, Doris considered the Catholic communities of St. Francis de Sales in Houston and St. Mary’s in Wimberley second families. She formed close friendships with many though her volunteer activities including RCIA, the annual bazaar, Lions Club, the Women’s Guild, Catholic education classes, and ACTS.

Doris is survived by her husband, Glenn; three children and their spouses, Chrissy and Tim Kelley of Houston, Nick and Melissa Fisseler of Austin, and Laura and Earl Ball of Austin; a brother and sister-in-law, Art and Mary Schilhab of St. Louis; seven grandchildren, Adele, Owen, Madeline, Luke, Edith and Lady Bird; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be at Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley on Wednesday, January 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on January 20 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m., followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to TruChoice Pregnancy Resource Center in San Marcos or online at truchoiceprc.org. Arrangements are under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home.
