CANDACE J. DAUGHTRY

April 26, 1944 – June 30, 2020

“Listen my beloved! Look! Here he comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills.” Song of Songs 2:8

On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, our beloved Candy (Yaya) Daughtry née Cline, leaped into the arms of Jesus. Oh, how excited she was to go home.

Candy was born on April 26, 1944 in her favorite town of Las Vegas, New Mexico. She graduated in 1963 from the Loretto School in Santa Fe, home of the revered “miraculous staircase.” Soon after high school, Candy attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. At ENMU, Candy joined the local Zeta Tau Alpha chapter. Candy became a beauty queen and was crowned Miss Portales 1964. Upon leaving ENMU, she relocated to El Paso where she became a wife, mother, teacher, and Christian. In 1998, she married her longtime friend, Fred Daughtry, and moved to Austin, eventually settling in Wimberley.

Candy has been a loved member of the First Baptist Church of Wimberley. She helped start the church’s only Spanish service. She is also an honored member of the church Carpenter’s Helpers.

Our Candy never knew a stranger. She has been a fantastic friend and loved by many. We want her to be remembered not for her life, but for her love of Jesus.

Graveside services will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 10 at Hill Country Memorial Gardens in New Braunfels. An outdoor celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 25 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Wimberley. In lieu of flowers, Candy has asked that donations be made in her honor to Pastor Gabriel, the pastor of the Spanish Church at the First Baptist Church of Wimberley.

“Give thanks to God in Heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.” Psalms 136:26

Services are under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home. For more information and to sign the online guest registry, please visit thomasonfuneralhome.com.
