Mary Ola “Skeet” Anderson, of Corral Theatre and Rocky River Ranch, passes away

Beloved sister and aunt, story-teller and star-gazer, protector of nature, and leader of young women, Mary Ola “Skeet” Anderson died on January 5, 2024, at her home in Wimberley, Tx with family at her side. Ms. Anderson was born June 17, 1926, in Lamesa, Texas, to Edwin Palmer Anderson and Margaret Alma Moore Anderson.

Aqua Texas sues groundwater district over pumping fine

The National Weather Service website stated that as of January 4, 24% of the Hill Country is in what is considered extreme drought conditions, which is the second to the worst drought designation category. Additionally, 20% of the Hill Country is in severe drought, which is a level below extreme. Aquifer levels reached the lowest point since the 1950s. Issues around groundwater usage and the limitations thereof have gotten contentious.

AARP offers free income tax return preparation

Free income tax return preparation begins February 2 at the Wimberley Community Center. Offered by the American Association of Retired Persons Foundation, the TaxAide program is available to anyone who wishes assistance. There are no income or age limitations and AARP membership is not required. Normally held at the Wimberley Village Library, TaxAide has been moved to the Community Center at 14608 RR 12 because of library renovations.

Foley artists create sounds for live shows and films. Creaking floorboards, dripping faucets, the zing of a sword pulled from a scabbard and footsteps make scenes sound real and pull us into the experience. There are three kinds of foley sound effects: feet, movement and specifics.

Cozy up to the WinterNights Singer-Songwriter Showcase

A two-evening showcase of celebrated singer-songwriters will light up the Wimberley nightlife scene January 9 and 10 at the Wimberley Playhouse. Curated by award-winning artist, Susan Gibson, the showcase will feature ten exceptional talents: Pat Byrne, Brennen Leigh, Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines, Jaimee Harris, Michael Hearne and the Red River Songwriters, a quartet composed of Susan Gibson, Walt Wilkins, Drew Kennedy and Josh Grider.
