Woodcreek appoints Alvord to city council

The Woodcreek City Council appointed a new member last week to fill the vacancy of Charles Le-Compte, who resigned last month.

Vicki Alvord was recommended by Mayor Gloria Whitehead out of 10 candidates that applied for the position. Alvord was appointed unanimously by the city council.

“I am thrilled at the unanimous vote to approve Vicki’s appointment,” Whitehead said. “Her wide experience in accounting, real estate, film production and as a business owner brings a high level of experience to this position. We are looking forward to working together.”

Alvord has lived in Woodcreek for five years after she and her husband sold their disaster preparedness software company in Virginia. She previously worked in the film industry in Los Angeles, ran a real estate company and was an accountant.

“I have always been involved in my local community wherever I have been whether it was Texas, California, New Hampshire or Virginia,” Alvord said. “I think it is important for people to be involved with the place where they live… I want to help maintain the character of our city, which is the reason we all moved here to begin with. I like the small town feel, the friendliness and the local ambiance. I’d like to do my part to keep it the way we all have come to love.”

Whitehead said she and the other council members, within the confines of the Texas Open Meetings Act, interviewed the eight applicants that wished to be interviewed.

“It went really well and seemed to be well received,” Whitehead said. “I think it was a good process, because we learned a lot about candidates who were interested in running for office. I thought all of the applicants were potential candidates. It is wonderful.”
