Wimberley recommends use of face masks

In a special meeting on Thursday, April 9, the Wimberley City Council voted unanimously to support the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that anyone needing to go out into public for essential needs and services wear a face covering of some type.

Speaking to the council, Wimberley EMS Director Ken Strange stated that “using a face mask of any kind is key to fighting the spread of COVID-19”.

He is encouraging the public to use cloth face coverings, while allowing surgical masks and N95 masks to be reserved for healthcare workers and first responders. Strange also emphasized that wearing cloth face coverings does not eliminate the need to practice social distancing.

Maintaining six (6) feet between you and others is still extremely important. If you would like more information on how to make you own face covering, you can visit the CDC at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover.html.

Additionally, continued adherence to the State, County, and City orders while regularly practicing good hygiene such as:

• Wash hands often for 20 seconds or more,

• Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue away,

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands,

• Regularly disinfect surfaces, buttons, handles, knobs and other places often touched,

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick. For regular updates from the County and the City, please visit the City’s COVID-19 page at www.cityofwimberley.com/COVID-19.
