Wimberley Players Gala, Under the Tuscan Moon, Glitters

“Exquisite, elegant, and perfect” described the Wimberley Players gala held Oct. 6 at The Messina Inn. Not so much as a sprinkle of rain disrupted the elegant gathering after a day of erratic showers.

Drawing inspiration from Tuscan sensibility, music and style, the gala was held at the Mediterranean-style inn on Cypress Creek. It proved to be the perfect backdrop for superb Italian fare by Gennaro’s, the soaring soprano of Keeley Hooker, glittering gold and white table décor, and the spirited bidding of its auction. Two guests bid and won walk-on roles in the upcoming summer musical, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, opening June 28, 2019 on the WP stage. A scholarship fund for interns was also established, much to the delight of Board President, David Bisett, who made this a goal for 2018.

“We’ve wanted to invest in the lives of our young interns and their passion for the performing arts. Now we can. It’s heartwarming to see such an enthusiastic response from our supporters,” he said.

Other auctioned items included stays at “The Hen House” at Vintage Oak Farms, “The Dog House” at Casi Nada, and at The Messina Inn. A gourmet cheese class from Rancho Queso paired with worldclass wines kept the auction lively.

Event chair, Robert Smith, greeted guests in white jacket to the strains of a string ensemble, wine and appetizers. As the gala progressed, guests found their places at glittering tables embellished with fresh white roses and calla lilies and outfitted with fresh salads and homemade breads. A delicious dinner followed and guests joined in a chorus of delight when Gennaro’s desserts of gelato and tiramisu were announced.

The Messina Inn generously donated its venue for the event. A cash bar was sponsored by Al and Jean Sander and table décor was designed and donated by Karen Rudy. Nancy Williams coordinated the food for the evening and Chick Morgan assisted with the musicians.
