Wimberley City Council Elections

Tim Dodson

Q: The plan to have the city’s effluent treated by Aqua Texas is well underway, but there are still steps to be taken before it is finalized. It appears there may be a possibility for the city council to reverse course and revert back to the city-owned treatment plan. If elected, how will you try and handle the sewer system and why do you believe that is the correct and feasible option?

Dodson: When considering a decision about the current sewer system, I find the following criteria to be important:

Environmental impact

Short term and long term cost to our city and citizens

Timeliness of solution

Expertise/competency to get the job done.

Based on my analysis at this time Aqua Texas is the best solution for the city of Wimberley. Living on the Blanco River, I am deeply concerned with the health of the river now and in the future. A no-discharge policy is necessary to keep our natural waterways clean and pristine.

Q: Besides the sewer system, what are your main priorities if elected?

Dodson: My main priority would be the road fund with a $100,000 yearly input from the city and to continue each year rolling whatever is not used into the next years input of $100,000.

Q: Do you foresee a need or an appropriate situation for the city of Wimberley to have a property tax above zero percent? Would you support a property tax?

Dodson: The city was originally founded by using a sales tax for funding. We should continue supporting that type of funding for the city and stay the course, keeping the Ad-Valorem tax at zero percent.

Q: For a number of years, local politics have become rather divisive in Wimberley with the discord creating apparent issues for the city and council. How will you try and heal that division and can you work with those on the other side of a political issue to strike a compromise?

Dodson: I believe that if we want to heal the City in it’s Great Divide then both sides need to work together to be more responsive to compromise. The leaders of our community should develop and practice a protocol of negotiating. The art of compromise is the only answer to closing the division in this city. We need to stop the personal agendas and concentrate on winning for Wimberley.

Q: The city recently deannexed two properties in Wimberley totaling more than 100 acres. How do you view the issue of deannexation for the city?

Dodson: Deannexation should always be based on a case by case decision, making sure that the request meets all of the Texas state laws.
