Wimberley’s VFW Rodeo set for Independence Day Weekend

Wimberley’s 77th annual VFW Rodeo, the area’s oldest and largest entertainment event, is set to return June 30 and July 1 and 2.

Taking place at the Chester Franklin rodeo arena at VFW Veterans Park on Jacobs Well Road, the Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association pro/open event last year drew more than 10,000 for its threenight run.

The rodeo features all the events that make the sport popular in Texas including bareback bronc riding, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling and bull riding. For the younger attendees there are two calf scrambles and two mutton busting events each night.

A flyover of vintage aircraft by the Commemorative Air Force will kick off the rodeo each evening, and each performance will be capped off with a spectacular fireworks display. Nightly performances by the Lone Star Cowgirls, a rodeo precision riding team along with the appearance of crowd-favorite Rodeo Hall of Fame clown and barrel man Leon Coffee.

Attendees will be able to browse among the food and beverage vendors as well as the numerous merchandise vendors. Beer will be sold at the rodeo, but patrons may bring their own bottles.

Admission to the rodeo is $15 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under and free for children three and under. In-person advance ticket sales will be June 25, 26 and 27 at the VFW annex building on the grounds. Prices for advanced ticket sales are $12 and 7. There may be a limited number of box seats tickets available for advance sales at $50 each.

Admission and parking proceeds are considered a donation to VFW Post 6441 and used to support a number of veterans and community programs and activities.

The rodeo producer is Bo Davis of DVS Productions of Gonzales, and the stock contractor is the Cadillac Rodeo Company.
