Wimberley’s first confirmed case of COVID-19

The first lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in Wimberley was reported on April 3. Officials confirmed that the case is in the Wimberley area, but not within the Wimberley city limits. The city of Woodcreek still does not have a lab-confirmed case as of April 6.

Hays County said that the case was community transmitted but that it was unable to share any further details.

On April 6, Hays County announced an additional five lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county. This brings the total up to 59 total, seven of which have been hospitalized. Only two people were still in the hospital as of Monday.

There are 43 active cases in Hays County as 16 people have recovered. There have been no reported deaths locally from COVID-19. The county has tested 448 people for the virus with 381 of them being negative and eight currently pending.

Middle aged people seem to be the most impacted age groups. So far, only four cases have been reported in Hays County of people over the age of 70 and six cases for those between the ages of 60 and 69. Nine cases have been reported for those under the age of 29 with no cases for children aged zero to nine years old.

The largest age ranges are 50 to 59, with 18 cases, as well as 30 to 39 and 40 to 49, which both have eleven cases each.

Women have also tested positive more often than men locally as 37 women have tested positive for the virus compared to 22 men.

There are only two areas within Hays County that have not reported any cases of COVID-19, Woodcreek and Driftwood. Wimberley only has one case. Dripping Springs has had two people testing positive for the virus and one has recovered. Buda has 12 total cases, with eight of them being active. Both Kyle and San Marcos have had 20 positive tests. There are 16 active cases in Kyle and 15 in San Marcos. There have also been four cases in Austin while still being within Hays County.
