Teachers keep Easter fun

On a regular Easter weekend, there are egg hunts at churches all around Wimberley giving the opportunity for kids of all ages to scramble, run and find the most eggs and candy they can.

A tradition held throughout the country, this year those hunts would not happen. It is truly sad as the kids are deprived of a colorful, wonderful memory making event, one to look back at fondly. But it seems that the teachers of Wimberley had an inkling to help. Being a teacher is synonymous with loving your students, even the ones who are hard to love. And Wimberley’s teachers created an act of love for their students, who are schooling from home, this weekend.

The elementary teachers of WISD got in the spirit of the season and came up with a novel plan to stay connected with their students and show their affection with an unusual Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt would take place all over Wimberley from the safety of their parent’s car. Parents of students were emailed where the eggs were located.

“We’re not like a big city, where each neighborhood does things together. All of Wimberley is really like a neighborhood,” Scudder teacher and brainchild of the hunt Beverly Clark said. “The idea came from the neighborhood bear hunts on the internet.” A bear hunt is one that gets a whole neighborhood to put pictures in their windows so that children can “hunt” them on a daily walk.

The idea was for colored, creative cardboard eggs, big enough to see from a car, to be placed at businesses, churches and all around town on Saturday. That way, on Sunday, they could help families to escape boredom safely even if for only a twenty to thirty minute ride around town.

Creative teachers still let their students know that at this time of isolation, they are missed, and maybe the teachers needed something to lift their spirits a little bit too.
