Summer youth programs at Wimberley library

This summer’s youth reading programs offered by the Wimberley Village Library will be online only, but will include some hands-on elements that can be done at home.

That announcement came from Carolyn Manning, library director. She cited the continuing threat of the COVID-19 virus as the reason for the change. In the past, the library has had activities in the building.

Youth programs will begin online on June 1.

“When you register your child for one of these programs, they will be registered to be a part of that program for all eight weeks,” the library announced. Each Monday, a take-home packet will be available for pickup at the library, and will be filled with essentials needed for the week’s project. Each participant will also receive an email with a video component.

The registration link is posted on the library website at www.wimberleylibrary.org.

In addition, the youth librarian will offer Story Time with Miss Emily for children ages 5 and under. A take-home packet will include an at-home activity.

The Science Club with Miss Milkyway is for children ages 5-12 and will include a science experiment, accompanied by a packet with supplies to participate from home.

Art Club with Miss Ann is for children ages 5-12 and includes videos of Ann Steine demonstrating art projects. Again, a packet will be provided for athome use.

Registration for these programs is also required and the link can also be found at the library website.

Every year the library offers a reading program with incentives to reward young people who read the most books. This program runs from June 1 through Aug. 1, and registration is available online at the library website.

Teen programming for the summer will also be online. The reading incentive program will have real prizes for those who read the most books. Register by following the links at the library website.

Every Monday for eight weeks, teens 13-18 can register to pick up kits that contain materials for athome activities. Teens can sign up by emailing teen librarian Anna Dussler at [email protected] or by calling 512-847-2188, ext. 109.

The teen skits include Write Your Story Journaling; Popsicle Making; embroidery; watercolor and postcard; and textile printing.

Additionally Kyle Kunkel will offer an online class for four weeks starting July 6 on the basics of Java programming. Register by contacting Anna Dussler at the email address above.
