San Marcos council member to run for Pct. 3 Commissioner

San Marcos City Councilmember Lisa Prewitt will be running for the office of Hays County Commissioner Precinct 3.

On Aug. 14, Prewitt filed to appoint her campaign treasurer, Jimmy Alan Hall. The document shows that Prewitt will be seeking the place of Hays County Commissioner Precinct 3, which is currently held by Lon Shell.

Prewitt is currently serving her second term as City Councilmember, Place 1, and in 2017, Betsygail Rand served as Prewitt’s campaign treasurer. Before her election to City Council, Prewitt was co-chair of the San Marcos Watershed initiative.

According to her City Council biography, “Councilmember Prewitt is a strong advocate of public transportation opportunities in the community and region. She also has a passion for small business retention and development, as well as, collaborative integration of community and economics.”

Shell, who served as Hays County’s Chief of Staff under Hays County Judge Bert Cobb for seven years, was appointed to the office of Hays County Commissioner Precinct 3 in Oct. 2017 and was elected to office in 2018.

According to his Commissioner biography, “Lon also serves as President of the San Marcos Hays County EMS board, which provides life-saving emergency services to citizens throughout much of Hays County. Additionally, he serves on the Vision 2020 Steering Committee for the Greater San Marcos Partnership, a regional initiative to improve the entire Hays County economy through high quality job growth and successful small businesses.”
