Rolling Oaks home completely destroyed in fire
A family’s home was completely lost in a fire last week in Rolling Oaks leaving one woman in the hospital.
The fire started just before 10 p.m. on October 30 on Rolling Oaks Drive. At this point, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Wimberley Fire Chief Carroll Czichos said he believes the fire started in the kitchen area, but there is still a process that must take place before they officially rule on the cause. He said foul play has been ruled out.
“When we got there, we couldn’t gain entry because part of the roof began to cave in,” Czichos said. “You just try and save as much as you can. We hope we saved a bit of the back bedroom, but the house is a total loss.”
The weather that night, with winds whipping around 25 to 30 miles per hour, also made the firefight more difficult.
“The wind was pushing embers 150 feet into a barn we were trying to save also,” Czichos said.
There were at least two people in the home when the fire started. Rita Pehl was taken to the hospital. A post on Facebook from her family said she is recovering from the injuries.
A GoFundMe account has been created to raise money for the family at gofundme.com/f/fire-relief-for-jennifertyler-and-rita-pehl.
