Portion of sewer project paused

The city of Wimberley has put a temporary hold on the treatment plant portion of the city’s sewer system project, but Mayor Susan Jaggers said she does not expect it to slow down the entire project.

“This is part of the contract,” Jaggers said. “They were already holding it because of stuff on their end, and we told them not to rush back… it will not impact the time line.”

This suspension also does not impact the construction for the collection system, which is still ongoing.

Jaggers said that suspension of construction of the treatment plant, which is up to 30-days, was “mutual” between the city and the contractor Black Castle. The suspension could be as short as one week.

“We are evaluating our finances and options, so we are going to take a look at it,” Jaggers said. “We haven’t finished the proforma on how expensive this is getting and how we can afford it. This is not canceling the project, it’s just a hold.”

She said that she does not believe this suspension will negatively impact the price of the treatment plant as it was allowed as part of the contract.

In lieu of a regularly scheduled council meeting on Thursday, Jaggers will hold a State of the City town hall meeting for people to “get information on where we stand financially, and why we put the plant on suspension.” The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Wimberley Community Center. The meeting will be for information purposes only. No items will be up taken up for action by the city council.
