Locally filmed movie to be shown on Backbone

A movie shot in Hays County called “Race with the Devil” and starring Peter Fonda will be screened the evening of Oct. 17 at the Devil’s Backbone Tavern by the San Marcos Cinema Club and Wimberley Film Fest organizers.

The show celebrates opening night of the Lost River Film Fest, sponsored by the San Marcos club. This is their third-annual festival.

The evening begins at 7 p.m.with a party featuring the Holiday Indians in the historic stone-built tavern. At 8 p.m. the movie will be shown.

“Race with the Devil” was released in 1975 and is a car-chase-horror classic. The story line is this: A couple’s hill-country vacation in an RV takes an unpleasant turn when a satanic cult stalks them mercilessly. As they struggle to escape central Texas, little Fischer serves as a key destination in their desperate pursuit of safety.

After the hour-and-ahalf movie is finished, the punk-infused bluegrass band called the Rock Bottom String Band will play.

Admission to this first night of the festival is $5.
