Local serviceman retires, ends decades-long military career

Congratulations to Colonel Andy “Doc” Davenport upon his retirement from the United States Air Force. Col Davenport led a distinguished 23-year Air Force career where he most recently served as the A3, Director of Operations, Headquarters, Texas Air National Guard, Camp Mabry, Texas. Col. Davenport was directly responsible for all matters pertaining to the direct operational planning, training, deployment and employment of more than 3,200 Airmen in three flying wings and six geographically separated units.

Col. Davenport graduated in 1999 with a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. In 2000 he commissioned into the Texas Air National Guard where he served for 23 years. Col. Davenport’s previous assignments include service as an F-16 Fighter Pilot with the 111th Fighter Squadron, Ellington Joint Reserve Base, Texas and as an F-16 Instructor Pilot with the 182nd Fighter Squadron, Joint Base San Antonio-Kelly Field, Texas. Col. Davenport is rated as a Command Pilot and Flight Surgeon with more than 1,700 flying hours in the T-37, T-38, and F-16. In 2002, Col. Davenport performed a successful ejection from an F-16 that experienced catastrophic engine failure.

Col. Davenport resides in Wimberly with his wife, Meredith and their three children, Alex, Jonathon, and Cayden. As a civilian, Dr. Davenport is an Aerospace Medicine physician performing medical certification of civilian pilots for the Federal Aviation Administration.
