KAPS appoints new leadership
The Katherine Anne Porter School Board of Trustees has approved the appointment of two new interim leaders: Superintendent Nadine Pabst, M. Ed., and Dean of Students /Transition Support Lead Jay Myers.
With more than 25 years of experience in the educational world, Nadine Pabst has served as a classroom teacher, school administrator and national leadership consultant. She was also privileged to serve as a district art coordinator, district UIL coordinator, and Gifted and Talented coordinator. Nadine has been deeply involved in the development of Response to Intervention (RtI/MTSS) and building Professional Learning Communities (PLC) in striving to meet the needs of all students. Nadine’s background, prior to graduating from the University of Houston-Victoria with a Masters in Educational Administration, had been rooted in private sector management and compliance. A lifelong learner with a passion for education, she knows that every student deserves to be seen as an individual learner. Nadine believes students who are challenged to raise the bar of academic excellence, while having their needs met, will blossom into productive citizens. Nadine’s hope is for the foundation of KAPS to be successful for years to come. Failure is not an option.
Jay Myers began teaching at KAPS in 2006. He holds a Masters in Music from Texas State University. While his focus is Classical Guitar instruction, he has expanded the music program to include classes such as Music Appreciation, Contemporary Ensemble and AP Music Theory. He also enjoys teaching other electives like PALs and Outdoor Adventure, as well as coaching volleyball. In addition to teaching, Myers has served as Testing Coordinator, Fine Arts department head and is a proud winner of the 2017 Wimberley VFW Teacher of the Year award. Above all, he believes in leadership through respect, relationship and culture and is excited to work in this new role to guide KAPS even closer to its ideal vision.
“I find so much joy in the classroom. I take pride in the unique personalities and communities that each of my classes develop each year, and I love guiding my students through growth and success,” Myers said. “I am really excited to step outside of my comfort zone of the classroom and try to accomplish some of these same things for the whole student body on a larger scale. I look forward to building and strengthening relationships with staff, students and families in pursuit of our mission and vision and helping establish our school as a safe beacon of respect, relationship and rigor to all Hill Country students!”
Katherine Anne Porter School is a free, public charter high school serving students grades 9-12 from Wimberley and beyond. As an open enrollment Charter, KAPS welcomes students from Wimberley and many surrounding areas, including Hays, Blanco, Comal, Travis and Williamson Counties.
