Jamboree to celebrate new name of FM 150 W

On September 4, 2019, 6 – 9 pm, the Driftwood Historical Conservation Society (DHCS)/Onion Creek Valley community will celebrate the designation of the Section of RM 150 W between the intersections of RR 12 and RR 3237, the William B. Travis Heritage Trail at the Hays City Store and Icehouse, 8989 RM 150W, Driftwood, Texas.

The DHCS was instrumental in promoting the legislation providing for the designation. DHCS worked closely with elected officials, the Hays County Commissioners Court, the Hays County Historical Commission and members of the Driftwood community to recognize this portion RM 150, which runs through the William B. Travis Survey.

Casey Cutler, who oversaw much of the community coordination stated, “It could not have been done without the hundreds of petition signers and public meeting attendees and presenters. The Travis Trail exists because the people and their public servants willed it to exist. This was a passionate movement of the people, by the people and for the people, exactly how government is supposed to work.”

With sponsorship from Senator Donna Campbell and Representative John Cyrier, Senate Bill 1221 passed both houses of the Texas Legislature with more than a two-thirds majority, guaranteeing passage into law.

DHCS joins with the community to preserve and enhance Driftwood and the Onion Creek Valley’s rural beauty, heritage, sense of community and belonging.

The event is free and open to the public. Come on down and meet your neighbors. Comments will be made by Senator Campbell and Representative Cyrier. For more information, contact Casey Cutler, [email protected].
