Imagine a day without water

Last Thursday, the Wimberley City Council passed a proclamation declaring that Wimberley will join with over 1,000 organizations and municipalities nationwide to take part in the 5th annual “Imagine A Day Without Water” on October 23rd.

The proclamation states that the Wimberley Valley was built and continues to prosper because of its exceptional water features like Jacob’s Well, Cypress Creek, Blue Hole and the Blanco River. Water is the most essential element on Earth and is vital to Wimberley’s health and economic prosperity. The Texas Hill Country is an arid region on the fringe of the Great Chihuahuan Desert that is prone to prolonged drought. The primary water source for the entire Wimberley Valley is the Trinity Aquifer. Hays County continues to grow rapidly leaving the local water supply vulnerable as demands increase.

Everyone plays a vital role in conserving and protecting the local water resources. Whether that is collecting rainwater, fixing leaky faucets, upgrading to low water use appliance, decreasing fertilizer use on our lawns or making sure our septic systems are in proper working order.

“The City of Wimberley invites all Wimberley citizens, along with our Wimberley Valley neighbors and friends, to unite with us and spread the word about October 23rd as a time to really “Imagine A Day Without Water” and learn what we can do to keep all our water sources clean, clear, and flowing.”

Christine Byrne sits on the City Council for the city of Wimberley. She was the council member who sponsored the proclamation on Imagine A Day Without Water.
