Governor Abbott visits Wimberley
National Night Out took place across Hays County last week, and an unexpected visitor drew quite a crowd in Woodcreek.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott stopped by the city of Woodcreek’s National Night Out.
“National Night Out is so important,” Abbot said. “It is a way for law enforcement to connect with people in the community. It is great to see so many people from the community out here understanding that the important roll that law enforcement plays but also that law enforcement is a friend. I was at a earlier event tonight, and I wanted to come to the closest National Night Out I could get to and this was it.”
There were about a dozen events hosted in homes and public meeting places with local first responders meeting people in the community for National Night Out in the Wimberley Valley.
On Mesa Drive, “National Night Out” could be called “Neighbors Night Out”, because for over 12 years, neighbors have been courting first responders, law enforcement officers, and politicians who serve the Wimberley community -- with a sumptuous buffet.
In the home of Martha Knies, Hays County Commissioner Lon Shell answered many questions about the condition of roads, dangerous intersections and turns, and upcoming roadwork in Wimberley. Other guest appearances were made by Detective Spitzer, Constable Torres, Fireman & Firewoman Robertson, and Paramedics Basilio and Jessica. Neighbors in this Spoke Hill area have been looking after one another for many years. In fact, a fresh new NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH sign is warranted, to replace the one that is faded and wornout.
It is the 35th anniversary of National Night Out in Hays County, which is now in 40 regular locations. This event is always a worthy venue for neighbors to get-together in a home or community center, visit, feast, ask questions, get to know and show gratitude to the men and women in our town, who often save lives, and risk their own.
