Get a quarantine buddy at WAG

WAG or Wimberley Adoption Group and Rescue is in a good place during this tumultuous period of quarantine and isolation. According to Barbara Foss, President of WAG, “We’re like everyone and dealing with the situation one day at a time.”

The canine shelter has made some changes to deal with the situation.

“We’ve reduced people down to a skeleton crew, we keep our social distance, and hand washing before and after anything is touched. We don’t know what is going to happen,” Foss said. “We’re doing everything we can.” This is true for everyone.

“We put out pleas for foster homes and doctors and we had a wonderful response. People stepped up with adoptions…we have reduced our numbers and even pulled a mother and her seven puppies…we’ve had good responses and are able to deal with the shelters when they are closed to the public.” WAG helps out other shelters in the area… with rescues like ours, it makes it more possible for them,” other shelters that might not be a no-kill shelter, like WAG.

The response of the community has been a great boon to WAG. “Doctors and fosters are still coming in.” Foss said. Having spare space in this time is critical, not knowing what the future brings.

But the good part, they are scheduling appointments for dog adoptions. “Calls to WAG are directed to the website. Pictures of the available adoptable dogs are on the site. “There’s a button to click for the adoption application. Once that is forwarded, we get an immediate call. We review it to see if the dog is the right one for the right people. Submitting their application is important,” Foss said. After that an appointment is made to view the available dogs.

“We are worried about donations. The community donates to us, Wimberley and the surrounding area and we hope it continues… it is a wonderful community.” She continued. “The future is so uncertain, we are hopeful for adoptions. We are doing the best we can.”
