Fire claims home of young family

A fire in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 12 claimed the home of a young couple with a brand new baby. Nobody was injured in the fire.

The family had just left town Tuesday morning when the fire started, according the Wimberley Fire Chief Carroll Czichos. The blaze started around 5:30 to 6 a.m., but due to nobody being home, it was not reported until 7:45 a.m.

By the time crews made it on scene on Wolf Creek Pass, the 6000 square foot metal building with an efficiency apartment was entirely engulfed in flames.

“It was a nice, well constructed, 24-foot tall building,” Czichos said. “It looked like one big red glowing piece of metal. Temperatures inside probably got close to 2,100 degrees. It was taking 16-inch I-beams and twisting and bending them.”

The structure was completely lost in the fire.

The Wimberley View was unable to find information on how to donate to the family.
