4th Thursday Book Club

Thursday, August 22, 11 - 1 pm at the Wimberley Village Library. Everyone is invited to join the discussion of Rocket Boys by Homer Hickham. It’s the story of Hickham and some school mates building a series of rockets as kids in the 1950’s in the real life mining town of Coalwood, WV. He eventually won the National Science Fair Medal in 1960 and went to work for NASA training astronauts for the first Japanese-American mission to space. A movie was made of from the book.

Lunch & Learn Lecture: Back From the Edge ~ Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles

Wednesday, August 28, Noon – 1 pm at the Wimberley Village Library. Tom Linton relates the story of how a small cadre of Park & Wildlife Rangers and a group of dedicated volunteers (including Tom) helped bring the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles back from the brink of extinction.

Documentary Film Night at the Wimberley Village Library “The Biggest Little Farm”

Tuesday, September 3, Healthy Potluck at 6:45. Film starts promptly at 7. It all began with a dog named Todd. Filmmaker John Chester and his wife Molly promised their rescue dog a happy life, but their Los Angeles apartment just isn’t cutting it. So they buy a patch of land outside the city, set about building Apricot Lane Farms, and John documents their setbacks and progress over the next eight years. The result is an inspiring ode to uncompromising idealism - beautifully filmed, and featuring unforgettable characters of both the two- and four-legged variety.

Lunch & Learn: Self Publishing Workshop with Larry Morris

Wednesday, September 4, Noon – 2pm. Larry Morris has self-published 11 books, all on Amazon, and with his well thought out slide show presentation, he will show you how the process works. Everything you ever wanted to know about how to self-publish your book is covered in detail; copyright, formatting, layout, cover design, ISBN and how to upload the book to Amazon for paperback and Kindle. Handouts will be available and questions are welcome.

Riparian Design Workshop

The Cypress Creek Watershed Protection Plan Team will host a Riparian Design Workshop on September 4 from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Wimberley Community Center. The Riparian Workshop will have an outside portion the second half, where guides will take you through riparian areas in the Cypress Creek Watershed. Anyone is welcome to attend and learn from Hays County Master Naturalist, local landowners, and Texas Stream Team on the importance of establishing riparian areas.

RECURRING EVENTS Café Susanna

Cafe’ Susanna begins her 16th season serving delicious meals to the community on June 6th from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The fare will be good ole’ church cookin’ featuring an entree’, two sides, bread, ice tea and your choice of desserts from our table of decadent home-made choices for only $9.00. Come and join the fellowship and good food every Thursday during June, July & August. We are located at 1200 CR 1492 at Wimberley United Methodist Church. Remember, we have “Take-Outs”.

The Cancer Support Group meets on the second Wednesday of every month in the Wimberley Visitors Center boardroom, 11:30-1:00, brown bag lunch.
