Holiday Movies at Wimberley Playhouse

The Wimberley Playhouse will show multiple holiday movies over the next few weeks. On Sunday, Dec. 23 at 3 p.m. White Christmas will play. On Friday, Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Les Miserables will play.

Trail of Lights

EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens invites you to the 21st Annual Trail of Lights daily, November 24th through December 28th, 2018. Sundays through Thursdays 6-9pm. Fridays and Saturdays 6-10pm. Stroll a walking path with more than 100 lighted exhibits created by local businesses, organizations, churches and families. Roast a marshmallow at the Yule Log and enjoy live entertainment on most nights. Admission is free; donations are appreciated

Big Band New Year’s Eve Dance

New Year’s Eve Celebration and Dance! Wimberley Valley Big Band is hosting a fun evening of dancing, music, snacks, favors, and general celebration to greet the new year! The party starts at 9 p.m. on December 31 at the Wimberley Community Center and ends just after we toast in 2019 at 12:00. Buy your tickets at the Wimberley Village Library or by emailing [email protected]. Tickets are $37.50 per person and include snacks, favors, music, and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight along with Texas black-eyed peas for good luck! BYOB.

New Year’s Eve Holiday Bash at Wimberley Playhouse

On New Year’s Eve, the Wimberley Players will host a Holiday Bash at the Wimberley Playhouse. The celebration starts at 6 p.m. Back by popular demand, Hideout Theatre members are traveling from Austin to the Playhouse to put on a two-act show that begins at 7:00 with an intermission featuring a delectable spread of appetizers and prosecco. Polar Bear Plunge

Jump into the New Year on January 1st from 12:30 to 4:30 at the Blue Hole Polar Bear Plunge and Fun Run! Participate in the 2K Fun Run starting at 12:30. Complete your run with a plunge into the famous Blue Hole! Plunge anytime between 1:00 – 4:30 and then warm up by the fire pit.

Basic Life Skills contest

Basic Life skills class series will be taught at the AgriLife Extension office, starting January 5th, 2019. All classes are FREE and open to ages 13-18 years old. Topics include: Cooking basics, car care basics, grocery shopping tips, financial management, interview skills/public speaking, self defense, basic first aid, Tool basics. Classes will be held on Saturdays once a month. The first class will be Cooking basics on January 5thfrom 9-11am. Call the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension office to sign-up!

Hays County Master Naturalist Training Class

Do you want to be able to identify plants and animals found in and around Hays County? Do you want to be part of a volunteer organization to assist with restoration and nature education in Hays County and the surrounding area? Then join the 2019 class to become a Hays County Master Naturalist! Classes meet from February through October 2019, Tuesday evenings and some Saturday mornings at various locations in Hays County. Cost $175 (Scholarships available) ---- must be 18 years old to apply. Applications available 11/26/18 to 1/7/19 on our website at www.haysmn.org

WVAL Gallery Juried Exhibit

The Wimberley Valley Art League will host a Gallery Juried Exhibit from Jan 9 through February 19 at the Wimberley Community Center. The opening and Artist’s Champagne Reception will be Jan 11 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Wimberley Community Center. The Juror was Joseph Hammer, a collage artist from Austin Texas. The initial show will be at Messina Inn in Wimberley, January 11th through 13th, with the reception on Saturday, January 12, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Next is Walkers’ Gallery in the San Marcos Activity Center, January 12th through February 15th, with the reception on Friday, January 18th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibition will be at The People’s Gallery, City Hall in Austin, February 5th through December 31st, with the reception on Friday, February 22nd, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Old Bakery Emporium will feature the exhibit in their second floor gallery, April 5th through May 1st, with the reception on Friday, April 5th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Details about Bold Beauty Project Texas, the venues, receptions, and upcoming events may be found at texasboldbeauty.com.

Saving Honeybees is Topic of Garden Club’s First Meeting in 2019

If you’re interested in learning more about “Saving People From Bees, and Bees From People,” join the Wimberley Garden Club on Wednesday, Jan. 9. Breakfast goodies are served at 9:30, and the feature presentation by a representative from the American Honeybee Protection Agency will follow. The agency has been dedicated to bee rescue and relocation since 2012, providing wild bees to residential and commercial clients, pushing for ordinances and legislation that better protect the precious honeybee, and developing programs that integrate wild bees in urban contexts. The program is approved for Master Naturalist Advanced Training. The club meets at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 101 W. Spoke Hill Drive, on the second Wednesday of each month September to May; guests and prospective members always welcomed. Contact [email protected]. and follow the club’s activities on facebook.
