Domestic Abuse Month Panel Discussion

Hays Caldwell Women’s Center presents a panel discussion about Domestic Violence and its impact on communities. With a short video, Q&A session and more, the panel hopes to raise awareness of the problem, its ramifications, and consequences. Learn about free services available and where to get help and counseling. Wednesday, October 24, Noon – 1 pm at the Wimberley Village Library.

Herbfest 2018

The Hill Country Unit of the Herb Society of America will be holding Herbfest on Friday, October 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Wimberley Presbyterian Church located at 956 F M 2325 in Wimberley. Featured speaker will be Matt Turner known for his books, tours at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and appearances on PBS’s “Central Texas Gardener.” Cost at the door is $20. Pink Heals with Wimberley Fire

Wimberley Fire and Rescue will team up with Pink Heals this Friday, and there will be pink vehicles all over town supporting cancer awareness month. At Wimberley High School they’ll be at the pep rally, with the Wimberley Fire Department crew dressed in pink bunker gear. Next the pink vehicles are off to Ace to collect donations for the Pink Heals project. Signing the truck in honor of one fighting cancer or in memory of one who have lost their battle. At about 4:30 they will leave and set up to tailgate the Texans football game to sell Pink Out t-shirts to help in the battle on cancer. The pink fire truck and police car were donated by the San Marcos Fire and Police Departments.

Haunted Pioneer Town

The kickoff for the celebrating will be on Friday October 26 from 7 to 10 p.m. with the opening of Haunted Pioneer Town. The 7A Ranch and the Wimberley Players have teamed up to provide an Old West town haunted with pop out goblins and spooks around every corner, storytellers posted around the streets, a gruesome cemetery and much more spookiness than you can imagine. There’s also family time, that’s a little less scary during Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. with crafts, a creepy petting zoo and more. Later those days the spookiness returns from 7 to 10 p.m.

“Boo! Hole Halloween”

Blue Hole Regional Park will host “Boo!Hole Halloween” on Saturday, October 27th, 4 – 9:00 p.m. It’s a night of games, movies, creepy animals, trick-or-treat trail, costume contest, photo booth and more. 100 Blue Hole Ln. www.facebook.com/blueholeregionalpark

Hunter’s Night Out

Knights of Columbus and St. Mary Catholic Church, 14711 RR 12, will host the “15th Annual Hunter’s Night Out” on Saturday, October 27th at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy a 30- gun raffle, a meal and beverages. Tickets available at www.huntersnightout.com.

Dueling Pet Parades for WAG

There’s also two Pet Parades going on. On Saturday October 27. Both benefit WAG. At 10 a.m. the parade will start at the Ozona Bank lower parking lot and proceed to the Square and then end at the crosswalk at Dovetails. Entry for each pet is $5. Later that day, the 22nd Annual Costume Contest for Pets will be at Deer Creek of Wimberley 555 FM 3237. Dress up your pets for a great cause, WAG. A donation at and your pet on a leash (or otherwise contained) is all you need to enter. Divisions for adults, children and unusual pets. Trophies, Ribbons and prizes will be awarded.

Pet Costume Contest at Deer Creek

The 22nd annual Costume Contest for Pets will be held this year at Deer Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The competition will begin at 2 p.m. on October 27 and will be held rain or shine. The event benefits the W.A.G. Your pet on a leash or otherwise contained and a donation to W.A.G. is all that is required to enter. Big Band Dance

The Wimberley Valley Big Band is offering a free dance on October 28, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wimberley Community Center. This is the first dance and concert by this all-volunteer community band.

Safe Halloween at Fire Department

The Wimberley Volunteer Fire Department invites the community to Safe Halloween. The free event is a safe and fun Halloween experience with indoor trick or treating, games and an exciting opportunity for the children to spend time with their favorite firefighters. The event will be October 31 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Wimberley Fire Department.

Tales From Devil’s Backbone

The radio play, “Tales From the Devil’s Backbone,” will also be broadcast live Halloween night on KWVH 94.1 FM-Wimberley Valley Radio at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 31. The Wimberley Players will put on the show live while it is on the air.

Trick or Treat

The Wimberley Square and the Wimberley Merchants Association will be open for the annual Trick or Treat candy handouts from 4 to 7 p.m. on Old Kyle Road

Wimberley Fright Night

On Old Kyle Road, while the Wimberley Players will be putting on the ‘Tales from the Devil’s Backbone” radio show live, The Lumberyard will be staging Wimberley Fright night with a bouncy house, carnival games and with a live pumpkin patch from 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 31

In the Garden with Master Gardeners: Fire Wise Landscaping

Learn to minimize risk of structural loss due to wildfires by making wise decisions about landscaping design, planting and pruning techniques. Carole Croft Introduces FireWise Landscaping designed for people who live in wildland / urban interface areas. You will acquire a basic understanding of the three zones that surround a home, gain an increased awareness of the types of fuels around your home, and learn how to remove them. Wednesday, October 31, 2 – 3 pm at the Wimberley Village Library.

WVAL Show and Sale “Second Nature”

On Friday, November 2 through Sunday, November 4, the Wimberley Valley Art League will have a show and sale “Second Nature. On the market will be paintings, jewelry, pottery, sculpture and more at the Wimberley Community Center. Opening reception will be on Friday, November 2 from 5 p.m.m to 8 p.m. More information can be found at www.wimberleyartleague.org.

Salvation Army Lunch

The Salvation Army will offer a pulled pork lunch plate with a side.drink and manske roll. Entertainment will be offered by the Salvation Army Band on November 3rd ,100 Thermon Dr, San Marcos. Tickets are $10 a plate and available at Brookshire Brothers Pharmacy. Tickets will also be available at the gate with the band starting at 11am and finishing around 2pm. Proceeds go to the Salvation Army of Greater San Marcos.

Alateen Meeting

Alateen meeting for teens (13-19) whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. Sundays at 4:30 pm, Wimberley Presbyterian Church. There is an Al-Anon meeting at the same time. Call or text for more info: 512/567-6817
