Doctors help mask Wimberley

Local doctors from Live Oak Health Partners were on the Wimberley Square this weekend with masks trying to help protect and inform the public.

“We want to keep people safe and healthy to slow down the spread of the virus,” Dr. Amy Hernandez, with Live Oak Health Partners in Wimberley, said. “At the same time, the goal with the governor and local community is to support the community. Out here we are talking about masks. If you are out and about, protect yourself and everyone who is working in the stores or restaurants. Also we are promoting online shopping and retail to go. That is really step one and step two. If you have to come out, be safe about it. Try and distance yourself in groups of less than six people. Wash our hands. Wear a mask. It is important to support our local economy but to be safe about it so we can slow the spread.”

Dr. Eric Price, with Live Oak Health Partners in Wimberley, said that the preferred options are to use delivery or curbside service.

“We are promoting the idea of safe shopping,” Price said. “There are three ways to do that. Our preferred way is through delivery to the doorstep. It is less contact with people. We want to support local businesses and make the economy thrive through delivery. Our second choice is curbside delivery. A person will pay for it ahead of time and there is no human interaction… If you need to be in person, there are safe practices put out by the governor last week, which we agree with. And we want to further say it is important to wear masks. We have a strong recommendation to wear masks, because there is a problem with asymptomatic carriers that could be spreading the disease that we don’t know about.”

The masks were sewn locally and given out for a requested $5 donation. Proceeds from the donations will go to Barnabas Connection or Crisis Bread Basket.
