Closures and postponements continue

Concerns and laws involving COVID-19 have caused a number of changes, closures and postponements throughout Wimberley. This is a list provided by the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce.

CLOSURES

Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce

In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 the Visitor Center will be closed until further notice. The Chamber staff will be working remotely and are available for our members and community. Please email Michaelanne Hurst at [email protected] or John Palumbo at [email protected]. You can also call Michaelanne on her cell phone at 512-922-1648.

Science Mill, Johnson City

The Science Mill is closed for the foreseeable future in response to the ever-changing COVID-19/coronavirus situation. We are taking the precautions of closing the Science Mill and canceling all programs and events. We will let you know once we reopen.

CASA of Central Texas

So much has happened in the last week. Our world has somehow simultaneously changed at lightning fast speed while slowing to almost a screeching halt. Like many, our CASA offices are closed to the public and many of our staff are working remotely. We postponed our biggest annual fundraising event until August (hopefully) and smaller fundraising events are postponed, too. We are not accepting donations in person. This week, for the first time, our training room was empty. And, sadly, CASA volunteers are not able to visit their children in person like they used to because of school closures and calls for social distancing.

SUSPENSION OF SERVICES

Wimberley Wagon has suspended service until April 17, 2020. This decision is made now because the spread of the virus is frequently massive by the time diagnosis happens. We are playing it safe for the health of ourselves, our families, and our community.

CANCELLATIONS

First Baptist Church of Wimberley, “Raise a Hallelujah” Women’s Retreat was scheduled for Friday and Saturday March 27th & 28th

EmilyAnn Theatre, 2020 Butterfly Festival

Out of a true concern for the safety of our patrons, staff and volunteers, and after consulting with health officials, we feel that we have no choice but to cancel this year’s Butterfly Festival due to the Covid-19 outbreak. We are of course desperately sad about this as it is such a meaningful time for our community but also for us as a family.

In light of these unprecedented events, we are going to do our best to still bring the magic of the Butterfly Festival to our community! We will continue with any features of the lead-up that are possible. These are listed below:

For the day-of events we are going to try something new this year. We are excited to try and take as much of the Butterfly Festival virtual. We are working out the details and will share them here on the web site very soon!

Again, we are all sad about the situation but we must do what is best for our entire community. We are going to use the great power and symbolism of the butterfly to bring hope and healing to a world that is truly suffering right now.

Lead-up Features: The art contest will proceed as usual. Entries will be judged and winners posted on the EmilyAnn web site. Ribbons will be sent out to winning artists.2020 souvenir festival shirts will be available for purchase as soon as they arrive at the EmilyAnn. We hope everyone will want to purchase one during this very unique year.4800 caterpillars are already at the EmilyAnn so they are being taken care of as we evaluate the school closure situation. We are working on release plans for those butterflies that will allow the children to participate in the magic of the butterflies in their last weeks before hatching and when they are ready to fly.

Theatre Productions

Our current production in our children’s theatre series, Sleeping Beauty, is now canceled. For information on other upcoming productions please visit our website at www.emilyann.org.

Wimberley Garden Club

Out of concern for the safety of our patrons, club members, volunteers and the Wimberley community at large, and in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control, state, county and city public health guidelines, the annual Garden Tour, scheduled for May 9 will not be held due to COVID-19. For more information visit our website at http://wimberleygardenclub.org/

Rep. Zwiener’s Roving Office Hours

Kyle, TX — The office of State Rep. Erin Zwiener will be canceling monthly roving district office hours in Wimberley, Johnson City, Blanco, and Dripping Springs indefinitely to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Rep. Zwiener’s office typically hosts roving district office hours in Wimberley, Johnson City, Blanco, and Dripping Springs on the first, second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of the month, respectively.

Out of an abundance of caution, Rep. Zwiener’s office is also canceling walk-in office hours at her district office in Kyle. All non-essential meetings will be postponed and rescheduled.

CASA Voices

CASA of Central Texas “Voices” Program electronically. Follow CASA on Facebook at CASA of Central Texas.

Mid-Texas Symphony Rhythm of Life.

To help protect the health and safety of Mid-Texas Symphony patrons, musicians, and staff, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our concert Rhythm of Life on April 5th. Additionally, we want to be compliant with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations to cancel or suspend gatherings of groups of more than 10 people.

POSTPONED EVENTS

Wimberley Institute of Cultures 30th Annual Pie Social

Due to the precautions that are being instituted for the prevention of Covid-19, we will postpone our Pie Social and reschedule at a later date. Our original date of April 18 was only 5 weeks away and it was coming up too soon with all the uncertainty of the virus. We were not able to pull our ad from Wimberley News & Views in time but we have notified other websites that the Pie Social has been “Postponed.”

The WIC Pie Social is such an important community function that we don’t want to see it disappear entirely this year. Wouldn’t it be great to celebrate the passing of this chaos with a piece of pie? Stay tuned and we will keep you informed of a future date! Please stay safe, maintain your good humor and reach out to any of us should you have a need.

The Wimberley Players

Due to concerns surrounding COVID-19 and restrictions on gatherings, The Wimberley Players staff and Board of Directors have made several changes to our 2020 season. The health and safety of our patrons and volunteers is of the utmost importance to us. We understand changes to an established season are never easy, but we feel the decisions we have made are the safest decisions possible and in the best interest of our patrons. These changes will affect the following shows: Sleuth, Legally Blonde, and The Cover of Life. Season Changes: Sleuth has been POSTPONED. This show will no longer run in April. Instead, we have made the difficult decision to pull The Cover of Life from this season and replace it with Sleuth, opening September 18th. Sleuth will run for three weekends with performances Thursdays - Sundays. In addition, Legally Blonde will be pushed back three weeks and will open on July 31st

Wimberley Community Chorus

We are sad to report that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic the Chorus board has decided to postpone the 40th Anniversary practices and concerts indefinitely They were scheduled for April 23, 24 & 26.. As much as we hate to do this, it is very important to do our part to mitigate the spread of this infection and to protect the many vulnerable folks in our chorus and audience. Chorus members will be notified by email of our plans as the situation evolves. We also will post significant updates on this site as well. Thank you for your understanding and stay safe.

ACE Canyon Lake

ACE Canyon Lake made the decision to postpone our annual Spring Fling that was scheduled for Saturday, April 4th. We have chosen to put the safety of all participants, customers and staff first.
