BUSINESS VIEWS

WITH THE WIMBERLEY VALLEY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center has been closed since Sunday, March 22, 2020. We so miss our volunteers, people visiting our community, member ribbon cuttings, Chamber breakfasts, mixers, luncheons, Chamber events and the list goes on!! On Monday, May 4th, John, and I started back full-time, however, the Chamber office and Visitor Center are still closed to the public for the foreseeable future.

From March 31st through May 5th, Governor Abbott has issued a total of thirteen Executive Orders (GA-08, GA-09, GA-10, GA-11, GA-12, GA-13, GA-14, GA-15, GA-16, GA-17, GA-18, GA-19 and GA-20) pertaining to closing and re-opening our communities across this great state due to COVID-19. Over the last several weeks the focus has continued to be on expanding restaurant and retail openings, along with hair and nail salons. Please visit gov.texas.gov for a complete listing of these and other press releases and proclamations.

I was shopping in Wimberley on Saturday, May 2nd (the first weekend for retail to be 25% open) and spoke with many of our retail and restaurant businesses. And like you would expect, each of their experiences during the re-opening process has been different. Some of our retail businesses had very good sales that weekend, while others did not, and still some chose not to open at all. Many of our restaurants seem to have almost gotten back to normal, although we know that is not true… it’s just that they have been doing curb-side, takeout and delivery so excellently and for so long now that it seems like it’s just a normal day at the Café.

As you all may have heard the Rodeo has been canceled, Market Days for June has been canceled and the Chamber Board voted this week to cancel the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual 4th of July Parade. This decision was not made lightly, as we know how many people in our community and from around our great state look forward to the Parade. However, the safety of our community and all the people in attendance is our greatest concern.

With all this said, the Chamber is cautiously optimistic that things will continue to change for the better, slowly, ever so slowly, but surely! These are super tough times, yet we are beginning to see a small light at the end of the tunnel. We will continue to communicate via emails and Facebook regarding Governor Abbott’s Executive Orders and other information as we receive it from our city, county, state, and federal governments, and leaders.

Please let us know if we may be of service! We are here for our businesses and our community in this place we call A Little Bit of Heaven!
