BIG BUILD

Habitat for Humanity working on 23rd home

The Habitat for Humanity home build #23 at 36 Persimmon in Wimberley has reached a significant milestone with its “big build” that was undertaken by community volunteers earlier this month. “The ‘big build” is the term the organization uses to describe the raising of a structure’s interior walls. Prior to the “big build,” the project’s core builders have been framing and raising the exterior walls.

“We have been working hard the last few weeks to get the house ready for the community to come in and help,” said Lamar Sellers, WHFH Board president. “After the “big build,” we need more volunteers on a weekly basis, especially those able to help regularly. Volunteers who work with the core team each week will get a better idea of the build process and will learn to work efficiently as a team member.

The home in Woodcreek is being built in partnership with the Williams Estes family. To learn more about projects and to volunteer, go to wimberleyhabitat. org and click the “Volunteer” option on the top menu and choose “Volunteer at the Build Site.” Instructions for their free online training course and safety program are outlined. In addition to individual volunteers, groups from churches, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to “Donate- a-Day.” Water, meals and snacks are always appreciated for the crews, especially on Saturdays.
