100 Man Give a Damn can be a reality

Drew Daugherty has an idea sparked by other localities. Marble Falls is one of those localities. The name “100 Man” is not trying to be sexist in the least. It’s men only right now to get more men in the community to become active in the Wimberley. What do they do? The name can mean a number of things.

“The 100 Man Give-a-Damn is a simple concept with a big impact. The goal is to do the most amount of good, in the least amount of time, by injecting $10k+ into the work of a local Wimberley charity through funds, exposure and awareness,” Drew Daugherty said, the spokesman of the group.

It is a simple concept after a brief explanation. Men sign up to give $100 a quarter year to charity. But how the charity is chosen is part reality show and game show.

“Charities must register with the 100-Man group to be considered. Three charities are picked, at random, from those nominated, and those three present for 8 minutes each, who they are and to what end they would use the donations.” Daugherty continued.

“Then all members vote for one of the three charities that presented. The winning charity is the one with the most votes. Each member then gives $100 to that charity and everything is complete within 1 hour.” Time enough to sit down, visit with the other 99 guys, have a beer and listen to the non-profits to be voted on.

“It’s a very loose organization. We are a non-entity. There are no directors, presidents, just men from the local area who meet four times a year for an hour,” he said.

The 100 Man idea was founded in Halifax, Canada and has spread throughout North America, including Dallas and Marble Falls, Texas. The Wimberley group plans to hold the first charity presentations in the first quarter in 2019.

It is a new concept for Wimberley and has proven to be effective in other communities. For more information, see the following websites:
