Cedar

The plant we notice in January is Cedar, especially if you are allergic to Cedar pollen that is released into the air starting in December. The native Cedar of Central Texas is Juniperus ashei. There are many kinds of cedar found throughout the world and they are all in the Cypress family. The Cypress family includes Redwoods, Sequoias and the Cypress trees found along our local waterways. The plants of the Cypress family have aromatic wood that is pest and decay resistant.

A New Year and a New Season for the Players

What a year 2021 was. Coming out of 2020 with the lights of the Great White Way on Broadway dimmed, many people said that live theatre was doomed, that it couldn’t be produced, that it was just too hard. They said it just couldn’t be done. The Wimberley Players proved them wrong and continued offering programs of music and movies in the parking lot. The Gin Game and It Had to Be You opened with socially distanced audiences. They expanded their live-streaming capabilities. They brought The Rocky Horror Picture Show to a Wimberley audience under the stars, for the first time ever. They staged three amazing full run (and full house!) shows: Nunsense, Sleuth and Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol.

Winter Solstice

The weatherman says the La Nina weather pattern is responsible for our unusually warm start to December. As you read this column we have passed the shortest day of the year, Winter Solstice, and now the days are getting longer.
