Wimberley Special Olympics had busy, successful fall
Wimberley Special Olympics has been busy over the last few months competing in swimming, bocce ball and bowling.
Swimming
Three of the Wimberley athletes, Matt Owens, Jasper Perkins Smith and Rufus Perkins Smith joined up with the Dripping Springs delegation to compete in the area competition at Nitro swim. Matt took gold in his 50 meter breaststroke, 5th place in his 100 m freestyle, silver in the 100 m breaststroke and silver in the medley relay. Jasper brought home 2 silver medals & a bronze in his individual events and Rufus won 3 gold medals in his individual races. The Wimberley delegation wanted to thank the Dripping Springs Delegation, Dripping Springs YMCA for letting us use their pool and big thank you to all the coaches that have been practicing with the athletes every Saturday morning since July 14th. Bocce Ball
Wimberley Special Olympics competed at the Westlake Athletic Community Center in the Special Olympics Texas Area Bocce Ball competition. The athletes and coaches have been practicing since the summer and all the hard work was apparent at competition. Ema Melton won gold in her singles bocce debut. Matt Owens and Rufus Perkins Smith took gold in each of their matches. Jasper Perkins Smith and Tyler Lassetter brought home bronze medals against some tough competition.
Bowling
The Wimberley Special Olympics bowling team competed Nov. 2&3 in Austin and all the athletes did a great job! Thank you also goes out to all the coaches and families that have been getting our athletes to practice at Sunset Lanes in San Marcos since August. Every athlete brought home a medal this weekend and all did well competing under pressure.
