Try out a Road Scholar trip

If you’ve never taken a Road Scholar trip, let me encourage you to do so; I think you’ll thoroughly enjoy it.

I’ve visited everywhere from Africa to New Zealand on these adult travel programs and I think they are some of the best values around. All programs include expert lectures and group leaders, all lodging, most meals and 24/7 emergency assistance if needed.

That assistance can be very important as I discovered when I had a bad fall on a trip to Nova Scotia and has to be flown home by air ambulance. If I had paid the emergency tab, it would have been about $25,000.

Road Scholar offers trips in all 50 states and to 150 countries. I have had learning adventures in Texas, Florida, California, Nevada, Wyoming and Oregon. I’ve attended international programs in Africa, Mexico, Costa Rica, Brazil, Galapagos Islands, Peru, Panama and Ecuador.

You can schedule programs to fit your specific interests, including birding, photography, theater, bicycling and numerous other topics. There are also trips especially designed for grandparents and their grandkids. Close to home, you can choose from two programs in Texas with your grandchild.

First is “Marine Biology: Dolphins, Fish, Turtles and Birds,” a five-night session held in Corpus Christi, with lodging overlooking Corpus Christi Bay. This program is designed “to learn about marine life, explore coastal habitats, enjoy a treasure hunt and do hands-on science with marine biologists.”

Second is “Marine Life and Mission Control: Sea and Sky with your grandchild in Texas,” held in Galveston and featuring visits to Moody Gardens and the nearby NASA facility to learn about space travel.

So whether you’re up for a little travel or a whole lot of adventure, Road Scholar might be just right for you. To learn more, visit www.roadscholar.org or call 877 426-8056.
