Still playing to the crowds

You can’t keep a good town down. No two ways about it, Wimberley is an artist and tourist town. One of the magnets for visitors and tourists is the lively theatre here, especially for such a small city. Just look around on Labor Day Weekend: those extra cars, they’re visitors’ cars in town.

So with worries about social distancing and masks, they can be a hindrance to going and enjoying a night out at the end of the week. The Wimberley Players have a good solution to getting out of the house on the weekends and enjoying a good movie, or a live band.

The plan – they marked off social distant markers in the parking lot and have spaces for two, four, or six guests in each. There’s a six-foot perimeter around each of the spaces, insuring safe social distancing.

People are advised to park at the Medical Center and walk over with blankets and chairs. But wait, as they say, there’s more.

“We’re doing everything to keep the doors open,” Simone Coprew, the Executive Manager of the Wimberley Players said. “They’re fun and safe events. We’ll have a regular bar with beer, wine and soda. It’s outdoors but it is a regular concession.”

She continued. “It’s a wild concept we’ve worked out. We want people to feel safe and to enjoy.”

Last weekend the live band “Homebodies” played Saturday and the movie “Jurassic Park” was shown Friday. Not only movies and bands there’s also live streaming events that will also be offered. They’ll skip the Labor Day Weekend, but will start right back the following weekend.

“It’s really a lot of fun to see everyone out enjoying these events safely. We all need a reason to smile right now and hopefully what we’re doing at the Wimberley Playhouse is helping our community smile a little bit more.”
