Pie Social is a slice of small town life
It is an event that one remembers, seeing old friends and acquaintances and catching up with their lives after a long winter while enjoying a piece of delicious pie. The weather acted very spring-like with drizzles and rain as Tracie Lynn’s music carried the crowd through the wet time. The rain is not to be cursed around here.
But then it seemed as if the skies knew that Wimberley’s Pie Social was being held. By noon, the sun peaks out. The celebrity pie eating contest with local celebs EMS’ Ken Strange, Deputy Constable Keith Tomlin, WISD Dwain York and the 2019 Pie Eating Champion Alex Villaret of Wimberley Water sit down and the sun decides to stay.
The judged pie winners are then announced with screams of joy from one or two voices and a lot of hangdog faces of disappointment on others. But hey! It was all for charity, the new Wimberley Valley Museum and the Wimberley Institute of Cultures.
The winning pies were auctioned off and I’m sure Pleasant Wimberley looked down and with a little pride saw his namesake city holding on to its heritage and small town ways. Remembering how it was “back then,” and how much alike Wimberley is now, it is comforting to get together at the Pie Social.
