A New Year and a New Season for the Players

What a year 2021 was. Coming out of 2020 with the lights of the Great White Way on Broadway dimmed, many people said that live theatre was doomed, that it couldn’t be produced, that it was just too hard. They said it just couldn’t be done. The Wimberley Players proved them wrong and continued offering programs of music and movies in the parking lot. The Gin Game and It Had to Be You opened with socially distanced audiences. They expanded their live-streaming capabilities. They brought The Rocky Horror Picture Show to a Wimberley audience under the stars, for the first time ever. They staged three amazing full run (and full house!) shows: Nunsense, Sleuth and Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol.

Now, The Wimberley Players are excited to announce that once again there will be full slate of shows for the 2022 Season. The lineup includes comedy, mystery, drama, a musical, and a classic – something for everyone! Season subscriptions are on sale now and single tickets for individual shows will go on sale February 1.

The Season lineup:

Clue: On Stage, based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn, written by Sandy Rustin, with additional material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price, and based on the Paramount Pictures Motion Picture and the Hasbro board game, with original music by Michael Holland opens February 18 and runs through March 13. Directed by Bridget Farias-Gates,​Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. It is the comedy whodunit that will leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out…WHO did it, WHERE, and with WHAT!

The Cover of Life, by R. T. Robinson, opens April 29 and runs through May 22. Directed by Tracy Arnold. ​The story of three brides in rural Louisiana in 1943, each married to a Cliffert brother, and now living with their in-laws as the men are off to war. A local news story about these young wives keeping the home fires burning intrigues an editor at Life Magazine who assigns Kate Miller to the story destined for the cover. Filled with charm and fun, The Cover of Life is a deeply affecting story about the struggle for self-worth.

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change with book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts opens July 15 – and runs through August 7. Directed by Milton Zoth. this celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as ‘the relationship. From dating and waiting to love and marriage, it reveals the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car, and pickup techniques of the geriatric set. This updated 2018 version is a hilarious tribute to all those who have loved and lost or dared to ask ‘Say, what are you doing Saturday night?’.

Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare opens September 16 and runs through October 9. Directed by Trish Rigdon, Managing Artistic Director of The Wimberley Players, this classic enduring tale of love against the odds is about two teens from feuding families who unexpectedly find each other. But is love truly enough to keep them together? Set amidst the turbulent unrest, counterculture, civil rights movement, and political divisiveness of the 1960s.

Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some), by Michael Carleton, James FitzGerald, and John K. Alvarez, opens November 18 and runs through December 11. ​Instead of performing Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday classic for the umpteenth time, three actors decide to perform every Christmas story ever told -- plus Christmas traditions from around the world, seasonal icons from ancient times to topical pop-culture, and every carol ever sung. A madcap romp through the holiday season with audience participation.
