JUST AS GUESTS INCHED THEIR WAY TO THE TRUTH, A BODY TURNED UP RIGHT BEFORE THEIR EYES.

Merry Murder at Old Glory Ranch

Murder, its resulting mayhem, and mirth delighted guests at Old Glory Ranch last week during the “Deck the Halls with Merry Murder” mystery theatre and dinner. More than a hundred guests attended the event. As the dinner got underway, news of a murder shocked diners and before long, everyone at the table fell under suspicion. As suspects were interrogated by tablemates and other participants, shocking revelations were exposed and soon, it appeared that multiple people had the motive, the means, and the opportunity to commit the crime. Just as diners inched their way to the truth, a scream split the air and a body turned up right before their eyes.

“Deck the Halls with Merry Murder” was a production of Murder for Hire, an entertainment company owned and emceed by Sean Homrig. It is one of ten scripts written by Homrig currently available. Each script is laced with murder, extortion, larceny, adultery and general tomfoolery. When not emceeing a mystery dinner, Homrig is an attorney with the Attorney General’s office in Austin. “The mystery productions pay for my student loans,” he said.

The setting for the mystery dinner was Chapel Hall, the architectural centerpiece of the 2,200 acre Old Glory Ranch. The acclaimed wedding and event venue is owned by Suzanne and Charles McCord and is certified as a “green business.’

Owner Suzanne Mc-Cord said that, “People really get into the fun of a murder mystery dinner because they tell me it’s a lot more fun to attend than just a cocktail party. People come from Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas — from all over the state, really — to participate. We hosted many more murder mystery dinners before the pandemic and are bringing them back because of the demand.
