Lions Club Goes Crawfish Crazy on May 11
On Saturday, May 11th, the Wimberley Lions Club will host their first Crawfish Boil from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., under the Pavilion at Lions Field. Live music will be provided by the Wimberley Way Band, and The Late Great Show. Games will include a “cornhole” and “washer toss.” Admission and parking will be free.
WLC President Richard Newsum said, “There will be plenty of crawfish served with corn and potatoes as well as shrimp and hot dogs. Beer and wine along with soft drinks, tea and water will also be sold.” Crawfish will be sold by two-pound buckets for $15.00, shrimp will be sold by the pound for $12.00, or $6.00 for a half-pound, and hot dogs will cost $3.00 each. Newsum said, “It promises to be a rollicking good time with proceeds going to help fund the Lions’ community grants program and the J.C. Hyer Camp.”
“The Wimberley Lions Club is the third largest in Texas and is celebrating fifty years of serving the residents of the Wimberley Valley,” noted Newsum. He added, “This year, the Wimberley Lions will host thirty JC Hyer students from countries around the world. This camp, started in 1973, is designed to foster and create understanding among the peoples of the world. These students will be in town from July 15th through the 19th, touring our area and learning about the history and culture of Texas, while area host-families learn about the visiting students’ lives back in their home countries.”

Lions Field is on FM 2325, about a mile from the Wimberley Square. There is ample parking in the 3 Lions Club lots. Look for the red, white and blue banners at the two Lions Club lots across from Lions Field and the third lot on the left, past the car wash, heading toward the high school.
