Litter

It seems to me that the litter problem on our roadways has gotten worse. Anyone know why? One problem is that when paper litter is abundant on the roadways, such as RR12, and the highway department comes along and mows right over it, the situation is worsened considerably. This has happened recently on RR12 and I have had several complaints about it. Perhaps the highway department should be the one who hears the complaints. Thankfully, just today, four people representing Keep Wimberley Beautiful picked up the most egregious pockets of litter on RR12 south. Thank you, thank you.

The constable’s office will investigate complaints of illegal dumping. This usually happens on backroads. If you see any piles of trash illegally dumped on roads, please call the constable’s office (512-847-5532) or their non-emergency number (512-393-7896) and the office will investigate. Citations cannot be issued by the constable’s office unless the act is witnessed or evidence at the scene is found.

After my last article on litter, I did have reports that thanks are in order to several who were not mentioned who regularly pick up litter. Jeff Rasco reported that friends and employees of his company, AttendeeNet, have adopted two miles north of Old Oak on RR12. He also noted that his team regularly gets members of the San Marcos Unitarian Universalist Fellowship who live in the valley. Also, one of his long-time employees, Sharon Mickey, who lives in the Eagle Rock area, walks pretty much every day and she picks up trash wherever she sees it. Rick Maldonado walks through Woodcreek and down Winters Mill with his grabbers and a bag picking up litter almost every day. As Jeff says, “These people are our unsung heroes.!”

We know there are others out there. Thank you, thank you, thank you. If those heroic folks are you or are known by you, please let me know. I will thank them publicly because we are so grateful. Let’s make our New Year’s 2020 resolution one to maintain our roadways clean and free from litter, even if we are the ones who have to get out there and do the work. With YOUR HElP we can do it. Happy New Year!
