Home Tour coming this weekend

The 2019 Hill Country Home Tour is happening over the course of two days this month and tickets are on sale now.

Each year a select number of Wimberley homes are open to the public and on November 8-9, you can visit all five of the special homes featured this year.

The Wimberley Community Civic Club has organized this event for 32 years to raise funds for scholarships and grants in our community. Last year, the Civic Club raised more than $77,000 through the efforts of the Home Tour and Spring Events.

The homes on the tour are as unique as Wimberley residents. One of the homes has been completely renovated after the 2015 flood and a third generation is now enjoying living on the river. Each home has a unique story which the homeowners are proud to share with the community. The varied nature of the styles and locations are what the Civic Club organizers look for each year when choosing the homes.

This year’s Home Tour is being organized by Civic Club members Lisa Dodson, Suzanne Davis and Cris Peterson and more than 100 volunteers who help park cars, provide information on the homes and staff the kick-off party.

Home No. 1: Artful Restoration

Designed in 1997 as a “Hill Country barn” on the outside and a Tribeca loft on the inside, this home was expanded in 2017 to join a pair of converted barns with two steel-clad cubes. The house is filled with art from Texas, Mexico, Australia and France.

Three porches open up for outdoor entertaining with views of the nearly 11 acres near the crest of Lone Man Mountain.

Home No. 2: Family Farmhouse

This home was built on six acres almost 4 years ago. It includes interesting features such as kitchen ceiling tiles salvaged from an old bank in Oklahoma and a wall mural painted by a local elementary teacher.

The home was built for a family of four until they were surprised with a little blessing. Needing another bedroom, they remodeled the laundry room into a nursery and moved the laundry room outdoors.

You won’t want to miss the pool, landscaping and par-3 golf course.

Home No. 3: Hill Country Modern

The first thing you will notice upon entering this home, built in 2016, is the clean, open space. The next thing is the successful mix of natural and man-made surfaces. This was a perfect collaboration between the homeowners, the architect Neel Morton and the builder Grady Burnette.

The homeowners tastefully decorated keeping things simple with creative pops of color to warm things up.

Don’t miss the indoor garden on the patio.

Home No. 4: River

Haven

The owners of this renovated five-acre property on the Blanco River retained the vintage exterior look with only minor changes. They enlarged the height of the windows to better take in the sweeping views of the river and connected the outdoor areas with new rock walkways.

The interior was reconfigured to create a modern, open space, transforming the small house to a two-bedroom, two-bath home, better serving their family.

Home No. 5: The Treehouse

The Hill Country views are appreciated from every room in this modern renovation. Sitting on almost four acres, the homeowners took a rustic “lodge” design and transformed their home into a four- bedroom, 2-1/2- bath, 3,000-square-foot family retreat.

Check out special features such as the rotating shoe closet, bluetooth enabled ceiling fan and more.

Waterfalls and ponds filled with koi fish create a serene outdoor environment.
