Jacob’s Well Elementary 2nd graders, Aimee Guzman, Kaiyah Mata and Sebastian Rubio, take their turn at the school’s fun run starting with a dash through a whole lot of foam.

Fundraiser mixes foam, fun & fitness

Fitness is always a priority at Jacob’s Well Elementary School and when there’s a foam machine and an obstacle course, it reaches a new level of fun. Students and teachers took to the field in the new Adventure Dash Fun Run, a fundraiser that gives students an opportunity to show off their skills while raising money for their campus. It worked. The Jacob’s Well Parent Teacher Organization event raised more than $44,000 to purchase instructional materials for their school.

“We challenged ourselves with a new way to raise money while promoting fitness for our students. Of course, our students were more than up to the challenge. They promised to complete a rigorous dance party and obstacle course and they did it,” said Andrea Pope, Jacob’s Well Elementary School Principal.

The Fun Run is the PTO’s biggest fundraiser of the year and it turned out to be a perfect fall day for students to get outside and take on new challenges. Parents and teachers had an equally great time, competing in the obstacle course and also creating obstacles for the students.

“Adventure Dash was great because it earned a lot for Jacobs Well, and the students really seemed to love the obstacle course. As a new teacher, I loved the chance it gave me to bond with students outside of the typical classroom setting,” said Courtney Katzmeyer, JWE music instructor.

The PTO will use the funds to purchase literacy books, math manipulatives and supplies for a new science lab.
