A few good birding festivals in Texas

If you enjoy seeing birds and meeting fellow birders, it’s hard to beat a god birding festival.

These avian-oriented events usually feature tours of bird-rich environments, with knowledgeable guides and also a roster of guest speakers well versed in all things feathered.

Some of my favorite festivals are in March and April and there are six in particular that I recommend.

Matagorda Bay Birdfest is scheduled March 27-29, in Palacios, and you can obtain more information at matagordabaybirdfest.org.

Spring Fling is set for April 4-May 10, in Quintana. For information, visit gcbo.org/SpringFling.

Birding the Border will be held in Del Rio, April 15-18, and information is available at wildlife.tamu.edu/birdingtheborder.

Galveston FeatherFest Birding and Nature Photography Festival will be held in Galveston April 16-19 and information is available at galvestonnaturetourism.org.

Spring Chirp is set for April 22-25 in Weslaco; visit springchirp.com.

Birdiest Festival in America is scheduled April 22-26 in Corpus Christi; visit birdiestfestival.org.

And if you can’t make any of these, consider waiting until the fall and taking in the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival in Harlingen. It’s set for November 11-15 and you can check out rgvby.org.
