Eagle Mountain Flags wins KWB award

The Keep Wimberley Beautiful organization has awarded Eagle Mountain Flag and Flagpole owners Daniel and Lisa Pitcher their quarterly Keep Wimberley Beautiful award for their work on maintaining and beautifying their business.

The award has been given previously to Ceremony Flowers and the Lumberyard for their work to make their businesses and areas well kept and beatified.

“We are honored that we received this award,” Lisa Pitcher said. “It is important to us to keep our front looking nice and attractive because all around Wimberley is like that. We definitely want to keep up with the rest of the city.”

As the president of Keep Wimberley Beautiful, Carol Scheel and the organization are on the look for businesses that work on maintaining their areas by making them clean and tightly that overall help not only themselves but the city as well.

“We are looking for places around town that are keeping their areas clean, neat and add to the beauty of Wimberley,” Scheel said. “Jim Miller is the one who nominated Eagle Mountain Flags… They keep their area up, looking nice and being a good addition to the city.”

For Miller, who also volunteers his time by working in the gardens in and around the Wimberley Valley, it was Eagle Mountain’s work on maintaining the area with their plant life as well as their flag pole and boot statue that made them the perfect candidate for the award.

“Jim does a lot of volunteer work in Wimberley for gardens and landscaping while being a naturalist,” Scheel said. “It was him that thought Eagle Mountain deserved recognition because they kept their area so nice, tidy, and colorful with their boot out front… I truly believed that they deserved it.”

Along with help from Hill Country Land and Improvement, Eagle Mountain Flag does their best to upkeep their property in the spirit of Keep Wimberley Beautiful.

“We use Hill Country Land and Improvement,” Pitcher said. “They keep up with our plants and trim them when they need to be trimmed during the right time of year. They keep it weeded, mow the lawn, and once a week they come out to make sure all the plants are healthy and growing well.”

By winning the award, Pitcher hopes this helps motivate other businesses in the Wimberley Valley to not only upkeep their outside look but also be in the spirit of what Keep Wimberley Beautiful wants in the community.

“I hope this motivates the other business to keep up with the beautification of their fronts,” Pitcher said. “I think everyone around here takes pride in their area frontage that everyone sees. Pretty much every place that I go by does their best to keep up with their fronts. I think it’s important to everyone that they take pride in what their businesses look like on the outside.”

As for Scheel, it was a nice to see that Eagle Mountain Flag was also happy that they were nominated for the award.

“Our reaction is that we are delighted when they are delighted,” Scheel said. “When we first called them, most people didn’t give anything away so to say that we want to reward you for your past years by helping keep Wimberley beautiful by maintaining your property in a significant way.”

With three businesses having won the Keep Wimberley Beautiful award, Scheel has seen other businesses within the Wimberley Valley step up their work into upkeep their properties.

“I’m always overjoyed for the people who receive the award are also overjoyed,” Scheel continued. “Sometimes businesses are totally surprised by the fact someone is going to recognize their work and attempt to keep their property clean and tidy. Some people think that isn’t a whole lot, but I’ve seen an upswing in Wimberley these days because of Ceremony, who has done so much downtown, then the Lumberyard, whose work to improve that area and continues to improve it and finally Eagle Mountain Flag.”

To which points out the objective of the Keep Wimberley Beautiful Award that makes other business owners want to do better with their properties as well.

“That is the entire point of this award,” Scheel said. “It’s so important to showcase for the public to get it not only in front of their eyes, but also to the business owner’s eyes as well. It makes them think, ‘Hmmm, I can earn that and I don’t have to do very much to beautify my area.’ I think it is a very big motivator.”
