Drug Take Back

This year marked another successful Drug Take Back Day sponsored by Keep Wimberley Beautiful , Wimberley ISD Health Services and the Hays County Sheriff’s Department Constables.

Unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs were collected on Saturday, April 27. Some 390 pounds of these goods were collected…more than would fit into the constable’s pick-up truck!

What a wonderful service to provide to help get rid of unwanted medications. As school nurse Chelsea Kelley, MSN,RN representing Danforth Junior High said: “For the safety of your family and the environment, think twice before storing, throwing out or flushing these drugs.” Compelling facts about drugs include the facts that every 14 minutes, an American dies from an unintentional drug overdose, emergency room visits for children from accidental drug poisonings are twice as common as poisonings from other household products (such as cleaning products) and wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove pharmaceutical compounds. Our sincere thanks to all who helped with this extremely important event.

DON’T FORGET ! On Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. , the annual Wimberley Garden Tour sponsored by the Wimberley Garden Club takes place. Pick up tour guides and admittance wristbands at the Visitor’s Center on the day of the tour. Not only will you see beautifully landscaped yards, but artists will be selling their beautiful crafts, specialists in honeybee attraction and preservation, a birding and chicken specialist, and other helpful experts will be part of the tour.
