Discover Your Inner Super Hero at the Wimberley Playhouse

Kids can discover their inner Super Hero on Saturday, March 16 at the Wimberley Players theater.

“We’ll explore the meaning of ‘hero’ in our third Discovery Theatre workshop,” said Monica Michell, who returns with Laura Haygood to facilitate the session.

Participants will spend the morning engaged in a variety of theatre games and improv activities as they explore the meaning of a hero. In small groups and pairs, they will create their own cast of superheroes endowed with super powers of their own imagining. With the assistance of the workshop facilitators, the kids’ scenes will begin to take shape as a workin-progress. After a lunch break, the playmakers will refine their theatre piece, work out the blocking, and add props, lights, and very simple costumes. By the end of the workshop, participants will be ready and eager to share their workin-progress with family and friends.

Leaders Monica Michell and Laura Haygood are theatre professionals with a wealth of acting, directing and playwriting experience. Between them, they have logged over sixty years of teaching theatre and bring a well-honed repertoire of energy, creativity, and skill to the Discovery Theatre workshops.

The all-day, participatory workshop is designed for kids aged 10 – 14 and runs from 9:30 AM until 4:30 PM. Enrollment is limited to 15, so early registration online is recommended. The workshop fee is $40.

Participants bring a sack lunch and water. Snacks and fruit are provided by Wimberley Players volunteers. Register at www.wimberleyplayers.org. For questions, please call Laura at 512-757-2773.
