Creekhaven’s new owners add

The new owners of Creekhaven Don and Helena Hauk have been working long hours since they purchased it. Creekhaven is the oldest B&B in Wimberley. They purchased the B&B from Bill and Pat Appleman.

“Two weeks after we purchased the inn, the road was finally paved,” Helena said of Mill Race Lane. The place, though a few minutes walk from downtown, feels like it is miles away. The huge cypress trees next to Cypress Creek make for a relaxing atmosphere.

“One of the new changes is the new high speed network. We cut the cord and are now streaming. We can fully support business meetings and also there’s the guests who can plug into Netflix,” Don said. The place was a 1930s fishing cabin with the first rebuilt in the 70s and later ones followed.

“We’ve had guests from all over, French, the UK, Mexico, just an assortment,” Helena said. She got her start when she was 14 and working summers learning the community of Las Cruces New Mexico.

“A B&B really appealed to me…I went to the University of Houston Hospitality Management, because I wanted to go in that direction.” She provided catering to the posh Houston Club, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, but when her parents moved to Kyle, she took a job with the Kyle Chamber of Commerce.

For the past eleven years, she has concentrated on small business commercial real estate loans.

Don also has a background in small business loans. They met in Kyle and have been married ten years. He was the assistant innkeeper at Onion Creek.

“This is my dream job, going to work each day, … and I have a great boss,” Don said.

The negotiations to purchase the property began last May and they just clicked with the Apple man’s.

“I’m glad they had faith in us as the next stewards of the property. It’s a magical place,” Don said. “The Appleman’s left the inn a good foundation. We didn’t have to go from scratch,” Helena said.

At the present time they are living in a house in Woodcreek, but in the near future will move on site with their two children.

The inn is perfect for a romantic getaway or for business meetings. There’s outside fire pits right next to Cypress Creek and it is very relaxing. They are certified for wellness retreats. Large screen TVs in the rooms with a natural mattress, refrigerator and microwave also are in each room..

“Our mission is to create an environment to have an amazing experience, whether it is a husband and wife romantic getaway to company retreats,” Helena said. “We’re real people and we can make it happen to fulfill our dreams.”
