Busbys compete in Champions Challenge

For the past two years driving on Los Flores, perhaps you noticed the big angry bear and sign “Busby’s Gym.” The owners, Keith and Melissa Busby have recently finished something that, for most of us, just thinking about it would make you tired.

They were invited by Advocare to be a team representing them in the Champions Challenge sponsored by the U.S. Army that “is a friendly, yet physical competition between our armed forces and first responders including: the US Army, US Navy, US Marines, US Air Force, Firefighters and Police,” according to the Advocare website. Advocare is a training supplement available at the Busby Gym.

“I’m honored and excited to be a part of the first Advocare Champions Challenge presented by the US Army. Keith and I will compete on an Advocare team along side first responders, and military units including US Marines, US Navy, US Army, US Air Force, Firefighters, and Police,” Melissa said on Facebook.

The couple went to North Texas to compete after being contacted by Advocare. They both have been in the health and fitness business for over twenty years. They met at Keith’s gym as instructors and were married.

“We both wanted to help people get more fit and healthier,” Melissa said. “That’s why we do what we do. We also want to be fit and keep young.” Keith agreed and added.

“We’re invested in the community. We are a family oriented physical fitness gym,” Keith said. With his school-aged son he also coaches youth athletic teams. “Kids love fitness.”

The classes that are offered at the gym include nutrition classes, Cross Fit for kids, adult and teen Cross Fit, Ladies Only classes, personal training, Community WOD, and Olympic lifting.

“We’re here to guide you. We’ve been doing this for quite a while…we help people,” said Keith.

“We want to give back. As we got into our 40s and 50s we figured out that at this point we wanted to give people the benefit of health and wellness. We are much more than just a gym…we want to help people for the long term,” Melissa said.
