Bosses Sauce in H-E-B

Back in 2017 Bosses Sauces, both Original and Recd River, were entered in H-E-B’s Primo Picks. It is a contest of food products from Texas and winners get their products on the shelves of H-E-B. The makers of the ranch-style dipping sauces, Boss and Laura Lambert, finally got their product in the store, and it has been available since January 28, 2019. Their son, Brady is the Marketing Director. The name might sound familiar as he quarterbacked the Wimberley Texans to their latest state championship in 2011.

“It was a learning experience…learning how to bottle. I asked Sandra of Sandra’s Salsa for advise as well as Julie at the Pie Shop in Kyle,” Brady Lambert said.

It was difficult fulfilling requirements the for H-E-B and all the government criteria. It took them about a year to get the buttermilk sauces recipe just right also.

“We got the actual formulas right. We had to tweak continuity and figure out quantities…we had eleven tests just on the base,” Lambert said. “But it paid off.”

Everything had to be approved by H-E-B including the graphics on the bottle.

“Bosses Sauces are available on the I-35 corridor. Houston, San Antonio, West Texas, Waco. We got to pick 20 stores. We wanted to be in Wimberley, thinking our own demographic is the best.” He continued. “So now it’s getting it in people’s carts. It’s in the produce section with cold dressings as you have to keep it refrigerated.”

Made with real buttermilk and quality ingredients (they’re a secret). An informal taste test met approval with the Red River having a nice heat to it.

Next time you stroll into H-E-B, head to there produce section, on the top shelf is Bosses Sauce, as local as you can get.
