Big Band to play Psalm 150 concert

At 3 pm on August 4, the Wimberley Valley Big Band will raise the roof of Wimberley’s own St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in a free concert of great Big Band music. The concert entitled The Psalm 150 Concert will feature an hour’s program of swing, light jazz, Big Band era, some hits from The Blues Brothers, and stunning vocals.

Psalm 150, often referred to as the musicians’ psalm, was composed by King David and calls upon everyone to praise the Lord with every instrument available. According to Biblical history, we know that King David did that, singing and playing the lyre, the drum, and the tambur in various passages of Old Testament Scripture. Of special note is that this Psalm is inscribed on the side of King David’s tomb, denoting the importance of its message in his life

The Wimberley Valley Big Band’s mission is to bring the joy and enjoyment of Big Band music to the Wimberley Valley which has been done in 6 concert/ dances over the past 11 months. This 21-piece ensemble of volunteer musicians under the direction of Doug Gillory will certainly “raise the roof” in a joyous sound of Big Band music at St. Stephen’s Church!

The Concert is free to all attendees. Any donations made will go towards the community outreach ministry at St. Stephen’s.
